Division of Earth and Planetary Dynamics carries out a variety of basic researches on a broad range of tempo-spatial scales to better understand the Earth as a dynamic system comprising the solid Earth, oceans and atmosphere by tackling diverse topics in geophysics; e.g., mantle dynamics, earthquakes, volcanic activities, surface and ground water, and atmosphere-ocean circulation. We employ comprehensive means to achieve our goal to elucidate the nature of the dynamic Earth based primarily on theoretical and experimental studies, geophysical data analysis, and fieldwork making use of the distinctive location of Hokkaido University.
